Health care executives slated for online forum

The Rochester Beacon’s second online event in partnership with Upstate Venture Connect will focus on health care systems, their responses to the COVID-19 outbreak, and the pandemic’s impact on their operations.

The panelists for the event are:

■ Mark Taubman M.D., CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center;

■ Kim Townsend, CEO of the Loretto System in Syracuse;

■ Rebecca Gould, president of Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls; and

■ William Streck M.D., CEO of the Bassett Healthcare Network in Cooperstown.

These executives will describe their experiences navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and share their views on how the region’s residents can stay safe in anticipation of a second wave of infections.

“Health care institutions are the front lines of our region’s defense against the pandemic,” said UVC CEO Nasir Ali. “They are also major upstate employers facing significant challenges to their business models. Understanding the role that innovation and technology can play for them is critical to our future success.”

Alex Zapesochny, publisher of the Rochester Beacon, will moderate the discussion. 

“Major health care systems and organizations in our region have been experiencing unprecedented pressures from the health and economic impacts of COVID-19,” he said.  “Understanding what they have learned and how they move forward from here is critical to planning upstate’s comeback from this crisis.”
