Congratulations to Congresswoman Claudia Tenney on her sweeping election victory last year. When I traveled to DC recently, I urged her to use her mandate to address climate change and follow in the footsteps of the Republican environmental giants of the 20th century like Roosevelt and Nixon. The American people know that there is 99% consensus in the scientific community as to the link between climate change and human activities. Recent wildfires have highlighted the continued risk of CO2 induced warming. One policy that is addressing CO2 emissions is The Inflation Reduction Act. The policy serves to spur private investment, clean our electric grid and reduce costs for consumers. Our district benefited from this when Plug Power got $387 million for their facility in the STAMP industrial park. I hope that Congresswoman Claudia Tenney will work to preserve the clean energy provisions of the IRA when the Ways and Means committee marks up the budget bill this week.
As a lifelong Republican and a member of Citizen’s Climate Lobby, I know that Conservation is Conservative!

I take issue with the premise of the title here. It implies that if you are “Conservative” you are predisposed to endorse a dirty environment. Mr Nixon was a lot of things, but he was no “Conservative”. Science is not about “consensus” . Science is discovery. Discovery results in data that is studied and peer reviewed. Because a room full of “Scientists” (many who were funded by grants and foundations that have a vested interest in one result vs another) say they have came to the same conclusion doesn’t necessarily mean its correct . The “Scientific Consensus” at the time of Galileo was that he was a heretic. The East Angelia (where a lot of this “data” is compiled) data breech indicated the people on the project were invested in making the data support their conclusion. Another mistake is conflating “climate” with weather. Channel 8 can rarely come up with a accurate weather report for the next 48 hours, I’m skeptical that these “consensus” guys can do it over the next 1000 years. If it rained hard today, that doesn’t mean the climate is disintegrating, the LA fires had more to do with poor forest and water management than “climate” If you disagree, and we return to 100+” snowfalls (75″ this year which is a huge increase over recent trend) like the winter of ’78 would you recant your consensus statement? I’m not sure your $387M pork boondoggle off sets the > 500,000 residents that have left the state in recent years. The cost/benefits need to be studied much more carefully.
So…please tell me why the Republican administration is destroying the EPA, closing their offices of environmental justice and the office of environmental research, all under the leadership of climate change-denier, Lee Zelden?
